FTP / FTPS
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) and its secure variant FTPS move files between systems, commonly for deployments, backups, and data exchange.
Many automated pipelines still depend on an FTP/FTPS endpoint being available. Monitoring it verifies the server accepts connections and authenticates, so a stalled transfer does not silently break a deployment or backup.
