# MTTR (Mean Time To Recovery)

> MTTR (Mean Time To Recovery) is the average time it takes to restore a service after a failure begins.

MTTR measures how fast you recover, not how often you fail. It spans detection, response, and fix, so fast alerting and clear incident data directly shorten it. Lower MTTR means less [downtime](/resources/platform-and-support/glossary/downtime) per incident.

It pairs with [MTBF](/resources/platform-and-support/glossary/mtbf) (how long between failures): together they describe both the frequency and the impact of outages.
