# Acknowledgement (Ack)

> Acknowledging an alert is the act of a responder confirming they've seen an incident and are working on it.

An acknowledgement stops further escalation and silences reminder notifications, the signal that the alert is being handled. If no one acknowledges within a set time, escalation moves to the next responder.
